Introducing the KVM switch:
A KVM switch is a key that shares a keyboard, monitor, and mouse between two or more computers. This is very useful when you want to control one or more computers or servers from one location. With a KVM switch, you can easily connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to multiple computers or servers at the same time. KVM switches can usually control up to 64 computers, and you can even use them to control servers.
Types of KVM
1- IPMI KVM:
This technology is in the form of additional hardware on the motherboard of the server, which is used to manage and communicate with the server by remote distance protocol (IP). IPMI technology is exactly like KVM over IP technology and is still used by network administrators today.
Through IPMI, various activities can be performed, such as:
1- Server console management (monitor output, mouse, keyboard)
2- Rebooting the server
3- Turn on/off the server
4- Observing and managing the existing sensors that are used to know the status of the server, such as server temperature, server fan temperature, CPU temperature, etc.
5- Using log reports and server status through SNMP protocol
2- KVM Over Wireless:
Wireless KVM switches allow managers to remotely monitor and access their computers or server remotely. Wireless connectivity eliminates the cost of infrastructure and the difficulties of wired networks and gives managers freedom of movement.
